The community group, Citizens for Active Transportation had a great time during 'Doors Open East Elgin' at Balmoral Park in Aylmer on Saturday. Mercedes enjoyed playing on the playground and in the new splash pad!! ![]() On Sunday, Citizens for Active Transportation had a water station for runners from London to Port Stanley on Sunset Drive. We handed out water, candy, reflective bands and trail maps. Mercedes and Blake enjoy volunteering for special events that help others. Relay for Life was this past Friday, June 7/8, from 7:00pm until 7:00am. Read some of the facebook posts from Active Abundance. June 5 We're all looking forward to Relay for Life this Friday!! Can't wait to see how well Mercedes handles all the activities going on! Who thinks she'll make past midnight? June 7 Relay for Life tonight!! This is our first time, we're all excited to see what happens and participate in the activities!! How much physical activity do I need and how do I get motivated? Answer: Spring is a great time to get into the habit of being more active after a long winter. Below are recommendations for how much physical activity you should aim for: - Adults 18 years and older need at least 2 ½ hours of moderate to vigorous physical activity every week. - Children aged 5 to 11 and youth aged 12 to 17 need 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity everyday. Active Abundance plans to register a team called 'Healthy 13' to promote 13 Benefit of Fitness for this years Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life June 7/8th 2013. Are you looking for more creative and interesting ways to fit a healthy lifestyle into your schedule? Do you enjoy spending time with your family? Since the ground-breaking research funded by Remo, Inc. demonstrating immune-system enhancement after one hour of group drumming, the idea of drums being sold in pharmacies has become more of a possibility (Bittman, et al, Alternative Therapy, January, 2001). The medical community and music therapists are not waiting for this to happen in order to apply this paradigm to their practices. And neither is much of society, for whom regular participation in community drum circles is seen as creative fitness and stress-reduction workouts. To read the full article click here.

If you know of a drum circle near you, please post the information for others. Happy drumming!! ... I started to notice that some of my pants were getting tight and hard to put on. I learned at a young age that muscle weighs more than fat, or a pound of fat has more volume than a pound of muscle, so my weight was never much of an issue for me. But I had never had any trouble with my pants being too tight!
... I went with my aunt to Herbal One. There I learned that it’s not just how much you exercise or eat that makes the difference, it also matters when you eat compared to when you exercise. ... that bagel, which counts as 4 slices of bread, was going to my hips instead of being used as energy. Man, does that make a big difference!! What I didn’t like about Herbal One was that they were so focussed on weight and supplements ... I did lose weight, but most importantly, my pants fit again, yeah!! That was when I started paying attention to nutrition and thinking about when I ate what compared to when I was active or not. Since then I have learned even more about fitness and nutrition ... more about how the body uses food to fuel us everyday. ... remember to take it one day at a time, we don’t get “fat” overnight so we won’t get “fit” overnight either...
